Bryan Podmore
Lovers Out Of Sight
The mouse scribbles its love-letters
behind the wainscot and discards them
into shavings and shreddings there.
As the moles pad intricate channels,
are they baffled by the traps we set?
Or by our ambiguous bottles
set drunkenly askew on the grass,
supposed to whistle them safe away
if the wind is minded to assist?
Do they rub pink palms together
and try to contort some thoughts
along the lines of love being blind?
