Doing The Right Thing
Sometimes you have to stay in bed all day,
watch rain on the window, a yellow tree.
An office can be like a vice.
By the end of eight hours
you’ve no breath left.
Sometimes going out is dangerous
when you don’t see cars.
A man can sleepwalk naked
down Mile End Road
hand over his genitals
but no one gives him a coat
just like those dreams you had as a child
at school in a nightdress
with nothing underneath.
