The gritty brick pavements
do not sing anymore
a Visigoth spring
awaits another absurd June.
Along bird huddled streets
chess players in blankets
one with a punctured lung
drink Turkish coffee
paid with Kennedy half-dollars,
now hard to find.
A sleepless actor
glides in front of the cab's headlights
near a lost child
tangled on oversized gear
holding a red balloon
caught near the Charles River
and a lonely saxophone
hears it all.
