Sheep
Twat one at 50
and it bursts like a blood-rug,
splits like dropped shopping,
swills its soup over camber, skid-flung stones.
You crack cud, buckle the cobbles of its bleat,
a stammer-slab of mard green sound
shatters, scatter-guns the tax disc like a gritter’s truck
as it bunk beds, pikes, stunned stiff,
cabers, wigbags tongue-flung.
Fleas lose their jungle disco.
Their bitten dance floor stiffens.
They feel an oven die.
Now it could be anything:
a dead cloud, billow of a bin bag,
the last cold stubborn shout of snow.
Nothing moves - just wool; one wisp, still warm
burrs the Volvo’s bumper,
tattoos a surrender over skid mark, zinging chrome,
the confetti of still stunned stones.
