A metallic taste to morning
The night spasmodic
With wrought iron dreams
Skeletal but insistent
The day grainy, in italics
Blues with falsetto
Strange crescendos
On exposed nerve endings
More competing pains
Drizzle across misted flat lands
The delta far in the distance
Stained hands
And inflections out of reach
Creased songbooks
And blood on a steel guitar
