Shaken
I remember his first wife who at dusk in rain
Lifted her hand to some glimmering eaves in blossoms
White blossoms dropping rain;
The scurry of their feet up and down the stairs
At night at bedtime a flurry,
Full busy lives.
I remember his son waking in the night
“Will noone take me to the lavatory?”
I heard but didn’t have the words to take him,
All the rest of the night he snowed me his toys,
Towards morning he was shaken by a fart.
Jean Symons has an orange and cream flyer to say she is reading with Ambit on Tuesday 11 December at 8pm. That must have been about 1962. Since then, she has wasted a lot of time, and is grateful Ambit hasn’t. She likes Plymouth Poetry Exchange.
