Only animals
The dog is on the graves
heading for the sea.
He does not mean to be
an instrument of god.
He will not stop
at the red telephone box.
He is fearful of misunderstandings,
also, of wooden effigies
of bowls of fruit
of plastic, generally.
He does not care for eagles
nailed to the sky
wings like doors, opening.
He does not care for open doors.
He eats stones
to keep his stomach clean.
There is a T.V. talking
in the hedge, saying
what is it that you want
to a small group of children.
The dog wants to go there.
He is not allowed in.
He doesn’t make pictures.
He doesn’t neglect his children.
He doesn’t rest his head in the fire.
The sea is sucking a sun
into its stomach.
The dog walks on tiptoes
smelling roses.
He knows he is sometimes mistaken
for love
he doesn’t mind
the blue boat
the yellow stone moon.
The sky’s open wound speaks to him.
