A Candle For Gemma
Gemma, I light a candle for you
As the flame gives off its glow
The memories I hold so dear
Come flooding back into my mind
The moment you were born, oh so small
How I felt holding you in my arms
A very proud dad, and I still am
After you are gone
The candle burns, getting smaller
I picture you as you get older
Your first word, your first steps
The way you ran into my arms when I got home from work
These are memories I treasure
After you are gone
The candle is shrinking, you are older now
Full of fun, full of life
Full of the joys this world holds
Your smile so special
Your laugh so precious
Even more so now
After you are gone
The candle still has some light
Bringing back the happiness you brought to everyone you met
The hearts you won wherever you went
That happiness is still here
After you are gone
As the candle is nearly out
I am reminded of your fight
Against the illness that took your life
Of how brave you were, still bringing a smile to many faces
This, others as well as I have never forgotten
After you are gone
The candle has one last flicker then dies,
Oh, too soon
Just like your short life
But still you bring joy
A song you liked, a film we both watched
Are more dear to me than ever
You have made such a difference to my life
While you were here, and you still do,
After you are gone.
