The Sewing Machines
from whitewashed glass walls of workshops
with oily hair, cotton twined
in its thin tangles,
passing the rotting apples
of closed market stalls,
motorcycles following after them,
they will lie back on the bright fabrics
of all the clothes that were not sewn, embittered
that it was the sewing machines they fell in love with,
and the half-closed blinds and the cotton gins,
and that they had opted for a workaday love
that reaches from a motorcycle's exhaust
to the clickety-clack of a sewing machine.
