but a battery of individual drums.

Her head throbs, the black thumb-smears
beneath her eyes become grey.
Nevertheless, the time will come –
looking down from her window
to the street she disdains walking,
its rain-washed kryptonite –
a seat will present itself as the house lights dim –
the front row empty – and she need only descend the stairs,
sidle past the pursed knees, her arms purposefully set,
and claim it.
Oh brother Sweep, oh sister Soo,
you are made for each other.
