Embrace
Sweet and fathomless sea
of feeling
embraces you as you
come into the depths of
silence.
Turn and see the parts
of yourself
recognised in another face.
Watch as your fingers beckon
you forward with eyes
that turn and burn
with fire.
Speech that crackles and spits
as the belly burns and
kindles flames of love
that light up the faces
of our children.
Those entities of light
that teach us anew each day
how we speak and learn
from them
as they grow in greater knowledge
words that speak our tune
only distilled by purer thought.
Hopes come to us as we
renew ourselves in them,
grasping our better selves
as we begin to see the
renewal of themes gone by
returned with greater hope
fulfilling our dreams
that die in grey ashes -
pieces of dust
that float in the mind’s
eye of failure
gone by, yet with us still
in our embrace of each
day as it unfolds,
beating its torn wings against
windows of pain
shutting out our understanding
of future loss;
shedding our skin again
and saving ourselves from
fear of a future
unknown,
rough-hewn against a tide
of eventualities that may
never be.
Begin to see the turning wheel
as she comes full circle
upon your destiny like
the embrace of love that
bears us in the darkened places
and leaves us still born
in light.
