The Department Of Dog
It could be said that:
A few terrible mistakes
Moulder
In certain office cabinets,
Fees mistyped, and the like,
But filed away,
They pass unnoticed,
And the secretary will sleep,
Unaware of her blunders.
It could also be said that:
Books in College libraries
May hold the truth
In one formula.
Yet, mostly,
They remain unread,
And the professor will sleep,
Having drunk his cocoa.
But this we know:
Outside in the vestibule
Each term-time morning,
The professor and the secretary
Nod their acquaintanceship;
Nearby
A lanky dog is snoozing,
It is largely benevolent
But when woken
It has a fearful temper.
