Introduction
I am very pleased to be invited to act as guest-editor for this issue of Dream Catcher - a magazine that, since its inception, has provided a lively forum for the best in contemporary poetry, prose, and visual arts from the north of England and elsewhere.
I’ve always been impressed by the sheer variety of the material that’s found its way into the pages of Dream Catcher - some reflection, I believe, of an editorial policy which insists on equal attention being paid to every submission. My own recent experience with the magazine bears this out as does the energy and dedication of the editorial team. Magazines like this are the life-blood of contemporary writing, allowing a spring-board for new and emerging talents and an outlet for more established voices. Maintaining this careful balance is, I think, the main reason for Dream Catcher’s continuing success.
In a time when our lives are increasingly dictated to by the language of the marketplace, Dream Catcher and magazines like it, enable us to keep in contact with that indefinable commodity - the language of the heart.
