Always after a square deal whilst aspiring to classical heights, Milladdio is an idiosyncratic figurative painter working mainly with kitsch and iconic imagery. Very interested in composition and the application of colour, the artist intends to create mood and atmosphere to draw an emotive response from his audience.
Drawings presented in this issue are taken from a collection inspired by statues in and around York, including the monkey gargoyle from the Chapter House in York Minster, and red devil in Stonegate. Most of the drawings are based on statues of angels found in the 24 acre site of York Cemetery, where the artist spent several months painting an homage to the Cookham artist, Stanley Spencer.
Milladdio has had several one man shows and taken part in many joint exhibitions, locally and nationally, with an imminent return to York’s walls planned for this year.
Paintings by the artist can be seen at Adze Gallery, 24a Goodramgate, York, (Tel: 01904 674348), from July 8th to August 12th.
