The Butterfly and the Jade-Moth
In crisp sunlight -
and just as the dew
is drying - an emerald-blue
butterfly alights on the
hybiscus’ horn. Its wings
stun the eye. They’re
soft to touch but stone to
see.
All day it will fly free
in her garden.
In the faded moonlight -
and just as the dew
is rising - a jade-green
moth alights on the
hanging magnolia. Its wings
tremble finely. They’re
gently downed like the hills I’m
soon to cross,
dreaming and riding hard
on an ivory pony.
