An orchid, heavy-scented, splay-petalled, (here’s another poem)
Arranged for your pleasure alone, (you’ll probably ignore)
Whose vibrant colours, beautiful shades, (but designed with care)
Exquisite perfumes, earthy undertones, (and artifice –it rhymes-)
Remind you of those long days (tailor-made for you, really)
You dreamed of love and lust, (reliable subjects)
When orchids were tendered (double meaning)
To buy steel roses grown in diamond dust. (denouement or ‘moral’)
