Actually At Acura
You pull up in leather luxury.
I don’t cringe.
I’ve wasted my own money
trying to escape that bondage
of our youth.
It can be as constricting
as a serpent.
The sensitive tongue
reaching for my ears.
You slipped out of your car
and wrapped your 6’3 frame
around my body.
I lined my hand down your back
and your skeleton pierced at your
decaying flesh.
The goatee was a sweet reminder of
your age but I still remember the
way our flaky folks would
remind us of their power.
They’d lock us in our rooms and precede
to beat us with whatever utensil or
object was at hand.
I remember having a Richard Scarry book
I always had an eerie respect for print
as they would read to me before bed.
I can still hear the nocturnal screams
of your flesh being pounded repeatedly
by the crazy animals they were.
I can only muster up sympathy for their
corpses when I know that those boxes
have been safely cremated and are
buried deep.
No shallow graves
for those two monsters.
Deep and fleshy
like any good Southern
murderer should be.
You didn’t take our lives,
but you certainly tinkered beyond any
recognition of hostility.
Freud wanted to explain the power of
wanting to kill one’s own parents
as jealousy we all procure.
Let me tell you that there is not one
shred of their character that deserves
that kind of respect.
Jealousy only strengthens.
