Green discarded rugs
lay tattered on the roadside.
Turkey vultures circle small children,
waiting for that isolated kid.
I turn my head from
sign to sign
Flat tires fixed
Baptist Church
Guns and powder
Pawnshop and all the other
downtrodden business’ that
harbour some snake oil scheme
to survive.
I realise
that in order for them to live,
they must suck.
Cautiously I cross the tracks
and see the other side of Polk County.
You can tell
the priority of counties
by the upkeep of
their roads.
I guess,
all of that freshly laid tar
is destined to outline Disney’s Empire
in Orlando.
The people are friendly
barring some We don’t care
how you do it up North
bumper stickers.
I just sit and wait
for my $2.50 pizza
having completed some automated
questionnaire.
