galleries,
but doesn’t know much
about walls and doors.
Idling
on the sofa
she instructs him
about gloss and emulsion,
the brush or the roller,
primer, under and top coats,
never to start
without white spirit.
She loves the vast expanse,
the northside
of her room
fit for skis.
A bold creature
leaning into the blizzard.
A soldier maybe
escaping via Norway
in some play.
She lifts her hands,
helpless shadows
on a newly painted door.
Wearing
her shower cap
he climbs the ladder.
He is reaching
for her ceiling.
