Winter and Gwen
Maybe it was winter did for Gwen
who, for secret reasons of her own,
climbed the stairs two up, one down,
two up again, as though it were a thing
like keeping off the cracks in paving
to ward away some ill. Now spring
has come, and climbing two flights home
no raddled, impish Gwen goes up and down,
which makes me wonder if last autumn
her concentration slipped and she let in
that killing thing... but then again
maybe it was winter did for Gwen.
