A Few Notes from a Barstool

Many a true word’s been said through false teeth.
                             *
No-one ever starved for want of a spoon.
                             *
When cultures die the last thing to go is the national soup.
                             *
You don’t insult a gardener by dumping horse-shit at his door.
                             *
If you make your laurels out of thorn
you won’t be tempted to sit on them.
                             *
Two pushed together single beds do not a double make.
                             *
Haute Cuisine and Irish stew
look the same when they’ve gone through.
                             *
If the show’s no good you don’t want a VIP seat.
                             *
A ten pound note’s a ten pound note, but a forgery’s a work of art.
                             *
The choice is stark: would you rather choke
on a three course spread or a crust of bread?
                              *
Young men’s eyes harden when they see a woman they fancy,
old men’s eyes soften.
                              *
Poetry’s pulled more wool over more eyes than Marks & Spencer.
                              *
