Michael Bartholomew-Biggs is a mathematician at the University of Hertfordshire who has been writing poetry since the late 1980s. Pamphlet collections “Anglicized by Common Use” (Waldean Press, 1998) and “Inklings of Complicity” (due from Pikestaff Press, March 2003)
Christine Brandel recently relocated to the Midlands from the United States and is patiently awaiting the release of her dogs from quarantine. Her work has appeared in literary journals throughout America.
Helen Buckingham, born in South London in 1960, now lives in Bristol where she attempts to write full time (poetry, short stories, articles). Widely published here and abroad, her work has appeared several times on BBC radio and has been performed in venues from Jesters Comedy Club, Bristol, to the crypt of Coventry Cathedral.
John Calvert, born in Accrington, worked in local factories until 1993 when he moved to Manchester to attend University, graduating with a BA in Independent Studies. Has been described as a sponge.
Penelopeanne Dalgleish was born in Northampton in 1977, began writing prose at the age of eight and decided on a career as a poet five years later. Flarestack published her long poem “Sectioned” in August 2002. Penelopeanne’s death occurred as this issue was in preparation.
Rowena Hulton “I seem to be a prize winner at competitions but never succeed to the ultimate prize. Eucalyptus Tree was written at a poetry workshop that was combined with yoga. Perhaps this may account for the unusual mixture of images. recently I heard the poem read out quietly and fairly slowly. I liked it. The crow in Black Diamond was seen in the tree. He’s a solitary fellow and gave me a chance to imagine what the darkness of his feathers indicated”
Jennifer Johnson was born in Sudan, studied Agricultural Biochemistry at Newcastle University before working as an agriculturalist in Zambia. Later studying English (BA) and Medieval Studies (MA) at Royal Holloway College, she is now a publications assistant for the History of Parliament Trust. She runs the Spinning Room poetry group in London, and has 2 pamphlets from Nettle Press - “Stinging Nettles” and “Erasing my Footprints”
Rabi Mariathasan, a Sri Lankan Tamil, was born in Colombo and came to England as a two year old. He gained a degree in Biochemistry twenty years ago and is now doing a part time BA writing course.
Paul Sutton, born London 1964, lives in Oxford. Has been writing for years, but in a more focused way for about four. Most interested in narrative and prose poetry.
Don Winter “took up writing in 1998 to try and keep my head straight after a divorce. Around 250 journals in the US, Canada, Ireland, England, Australia and Switzerland have since accepted my work – which has been influenced by the time I spent flipping burgers, buffing floors and investing in real estate”
