The Problem
My problem is that I look
like fiftythousand other Englishmen.
We are all small, dark, chubby,
wear glasses, and have mundane voices.
Sometimes, this is bad,
the police arrest us in mistake
for someone else. Sometimes,
it is good, we can sneak into bed
with each other’s wives.
Sometimes, it is a nuisance,
I am confused with certain poets,
and people then stare,
and wait for me to kiss the host,
or pee all over the floor or pass-out.
Most of the time, though, it is
as it should be, and we happily pretend
that we are all different people.
