The Gardener
Yes madam, I am the gardener
Here, the sergeant of these vegetables.
Pass me by, for there are my masters,
The flowers, nodding you on, their veined
Cups holding more spirit and beauty
Than I can tell you of, out of my soil --
Blind gaze; I tidy the ground for them,
That is all. But the cabbages
I can manage with their docile, taut
Hearts of green. Good morning, madam.
The sun is early again today.
Here, the sergeant of these vegetables.
Pass me by, for there are my masters,
The flowers, nodding you on, their veined
Cups holding more spirit and beauty
Than I can tell you of, out of my soil --
Blind gaze; I tidy the ground for them,
That is all. But the cabbages
I can manage with their docile, taut
Hearts of green. Good morning, madam.
The sun is early again today.
