Miss things in the mirror: the Stella
the late nights, the narcotic embrace
of exhaustion on the way back,
the fall-in-the-hedge poleaxe
effect of being just too beautiful,
too too for the real world and just
perfection with a Bud’ to dance with.
She reflects on this now
that she is over a stone or two
heavier, wider in the wrong place,
no longer the perfect narcist.
The sobriety of doctors,
dull with its life-saving weight-gaining pills,
is a mixed gift - the hedge approves
as does mother;
but the recollection of mirrors,
that is a hard thing.
