Eyes
about these walls,
especially about their small portraits,
about their faces from the past,
their classical eyes,
which I can't bear, so fixed and steady,
eyes riveted there like bones,
built almost in the expression of the walls.
Say whatever you have to say
before this house starts crumbling,
so at last
some reaction can be heard
if only by the faces of the portraits,
so that finally the bones of their eyes
can cry their marrow out.
