Homecoming
The house, I came upon it, as an
inheritance. Two up, two down and the
usual facilities, with rough bricks and
mortar.
I knew its nooks and crannies from
childhood. Each room stifling, windows
fashionably sash but unopened. Bare plaster
inside, from renovation. The walls would
not talk, they had been manually silenced.
I looked through the windows, and saw
darkly marked birds fluttering outside.
I could spread myself in this house, and my
eyes will not melt or go rigid. So soon as
the walls will stay safe, keep the pain away
and the house confirm a new life in
keeping.
