More like the surge of some huge generator
constantly upped one notch further into
supercharge – with interludes on the sound track
(and lots of accompanying room judder)
in which your full-steam-up Britannia class
express is always out on the moorland straight -
door-slamming-it past an even faster one
coming the other way. And this goes on repeatedly.
It was something like that, but in the dark
all you could do was listen. So you say.
Of course, you always knew that dawn would break
with its paltry wordy retrospective.
Now, over the lake reservoir, grey clusters
of clawing rain are swept off their flightpath.
After toothpaste, this glass of water does not
taste like home. Maybe the road out is already flooded.
