Immanuel Mifsud (Malta, 1967) has published poetry, prose and also three children’s books. His prose has been considered very controversial and critics have tagged him the leading writer of the Maltese Generation-X. Mifsud’s writing career oscillates between having a short story collection banned in 2005 and being criticised by the media for his very graphic writing, and winning the National Literary Award in 2002 and the European Union Prize for Literature in 2011. Several of his prose works have been translated, most notably his short story collection Happy Weekend (in English and Albanian), his novella Zerafa (in English and German) and his European Award winning book In the Name of the Father (and of the Son) which has been translated and published in English with forthcoming editions in French, Slovene, Czech, Turkish and Bulgarian. Since Immanuel Mifsud is frequently invited to participate in poetry festivals various poems of his have been translated. In 2005 Maurice Riordan translated his poetry collection Confidential Reports (Cork, Southword Editions) and in 2011 Bateau Noir (Malta, Edizzjonijiet Emmadelezio) was published in a bilingual edition Maltese-French with translations by Nadia Mifsud.
Immanuel Mifsud lectures in Maltese modern poetry and literary theory at the University of Malta.
