Notebook
They found a notebook containing all these women’s names, with or without addresses, a jumble of names: whores, you say, and “handy addresses”. But this notebook, just because of the mass, cannot correspond to experience. A man busy with a great work could not have entered into so many women. This whole notebook contains figures that only represent one Figure, before which the poet is a Supplicant, it is a vow of union with the common woman and the mass of women, and thereby the notebook is lost in prayer. All the names adored beneath the clothing of nakedness intercede for the poet.
