Abegail Morley
Slice
Between biting his burger
and talking to her,
he stops at the kerb
of Gerald Street,
and they hover on the cusp
of the pavement.
She tells him to ignore everything.
He smiles at her,
squeezes tomato pips between his teeth
slides them through gaps,
wraps them around his front teeth
and licks them away without a thought.
He is far away
with the other girl he’s been kissing
and the lips that cradle the burger
have been trailing her body for days.
Abegail Morley’s first collection is How to Pour Madness into a Teacup (Cinnamon, December 2009); she appears in The Sandhopper Lover (Cinnamon). She won the Cinnamon Press Poetry Collection Award 2008.
