Daybreak Song
Blue Jay calls us to sit with the Old Ones
wooing the pulsing and sweaty new earth.
The Old Ones chant each night
in our dreams the path to their longhouse
for the blood's story bundle.
Blue Jay scratches in the ground
the story of dawn's yellow emergence,
how children can swim with Killer Whale.
Blue Crown tells the children
to expect little from the storm
but the way to shatter and chip like shale.
Blue Jay sidesteps Crow in a forest dance
as green inclined as crocus feet,
possessed by light's fancy birth.
Crow, in this mix of hours and tribe,
turns inward and over like the sky,
to be Hummingbird fire - just once.
