He’ll grab a saw. Cut
a few lengths. Shape brick
for some fancy edging.
‘You’ve skilled men for that.’
She’ll make him change his
clean on this morning clothes.
It’s too late for the hands –
large, rough, creased like
old leather. Hands she’d
hang in the tool shed.
Now they sprawl on stiff
white cloth and his wife
thinks if she stares hard,
switching from face to
hands then back, he’ll hide
them under the table.
