True Story
for Terry O'Connor
The Civil Servant
left his office one lunch time
and watched
a hissing, howling crowd,
both male and female,
surround a woman of great beauty.
They tried to stab and cudgel her
with neatly rolled umbrellas.
He never forgot this spectacle
and it turned him against
the outraged, moral mob
for good.
He found Kropotkin
later that year
and became an anarchist.
The recipient of the world's disgust
had not noticed him.
Her name was Christine Keeler.
He often wondered
what became
of her.
