At Hassan's Pension
fat grapes sit
above the terrace the baby squeals
in a hammock and the cat exits
the kitchen with a hot loaf Mrs Hassan follows
kicks
the cat into a bush dusts
the bread slaps
it on the cloth rocks
the hammock the cat heads
back in Mrs Hassan soon after.
And Hassan wants
to learn English: How are you?
Mrs Hassan exits
the kitchen slaps
a pile of plates on the cloth while she kicks
the cat again into the bush sets
again the hammock rocking
in and out now Mrs Hassan fetching
bread, olives, jam the conquered cat is sulking
plotting.
And Hassan is coming
on: Thank you — I am very well.
