Marseus has a Particularity for Persian Figs
He's come up in the world recently.
He's built a totem in his garden.
He says it's a standard - The Standard -
erected on orders of the Emperor.
It's covered with runes which (he claims)
list all proprieties, codifications, scruples
and sanctions that define a moral world.
He gives his assurance that they're all apt.
It's a yardstick of correctness.
It's exactly three feet high.
He's set unacceptable units of deviation:
two for a different religion,
four for fig trees
and so on.
Nobody can dispute a word.
Thus we are at war with the Persians.
