Postcard from Vague
Hillview Hotel. Dear mum and dad, which hill
it was where Vague’s first settler saw his Vision
nobody knows with any great precision,
or if it was some mind-contracting pill
he’d popped, or brain damage, if he was ill
with fever, mad, or what. But much derision
was what he met from folk at first, then prison,
then psychiatric ward, and yet his will,
though bent, remained unbroken. Weather chillier
here, and it’s always hazy. Food quite good.
The people all seem vaguely unfamiliar
but friendly. I feel un-misunderstood
for once – you know, when laughter meets with laughter.
I’m back next week. Or maybe the week after.
