Rhubarb
Tall prinked-leaf stalks in garden plot,
pink lipsticks of the horticultural world
are ready to be gathered in.
Six stems for neighbours, six I keep
now millimetres of acid stick
lie waiting to be cubed and spooned
with sugar, softened by low heat
under my red preserving pan
to colour lips rosé.
