From: Superga is Waiting (1987)
The Waltz of the Telegraph Operators
the telegraph operators proceed through the mist
remote and huddled they dine at the stations
and how they love boxing and the races.
At night they rush
to the ballroom clubs
in pairs they dance the waltz and foxtrot
then step outside for a cigarette.
And as they strike the match for a second
they notice something a scene
from an earlier forgotten life
on the quayside sorrowful relations
their own corpses
kiss on the brow.
And then once more their forms vanish
into the darkness.
