Hugh Waterhouse
Sick As A Mallard
Imagine this
the academic front-man
analyses lakes.
Behind their sprinkled notes
the lads,
eves open, doze.
With a click of the carousel, a duck
is bobbing on the screen, the auditorium
quacks in rhythm. till the man
with the mouth sidefoots the bird
into the seats.
Imagine a line of seats
a man on the grass with a pea
in a whistle, and a man with the ball.
He bobs along the line,
below the line of seats.
On empty headed terraces
the lads
are apeing apes.
Outside they kick a passer-by
along the streets.
