Liz Atkin
'Wendy'
she’s picking the bugs off
that they plant at night
in her winter garden
to listen to her affairs,
she hears them
from the other side
of her living room window pane.
She pays no attention
to the garden statuette
of ‘Wendy’ on tiptoe
with bird bath,
bought by her late husband
from the Army and Navy
just before the war,
pays no attention
even though she hears
those hard little eyes
crunching like marbles
in sand filled sockets
as they follow
her slow and meticulous path.
