Lullaby
One night to help bring sleep I told myself this story,
that I was a man lying with eyes closed on a rumpled bed
with one arm cradling my wife in whose body my body had lately been
joined
and that the bed was sailing in a house on an island in a world
whose motion, perhaps, could be assumed, but not really felt or sensed
through the half-lit reaches of a starred and unimaginable heaven,
and that all of these, fully, I neither knew nor belonged to
nor understood. It was a love story of sorts, unfinished.
