There may be better things
Than reading Tales of the Greek Heroes to an enthralled six year old,
Than listening to Miranda B. segue
From Blue 6 into Kevin Yost,
Than sharing a meal with someone who laughs at your jokes,
Than finding a 1953 Wisden in a car boot sale,
Than setting off to the Southport Weekender with the car laden
With speakers and expectation.
There may be better things than these.
I’m sure there are.
But, in a wet April at the close of a cruel century,
With the world still full of war,
Their significance should not go unexplored.
