Pastorale Recalled
Muffled baritones in straight rows
bob along by the hedge.
Glow-worms halo their heads
making a descant of eggs
fried sunnyside up
whilst they sing Ave Maree-eeah.
An ovenful of burnt black crusts
is a shiny street
of wet cobble stones;
a rollicking clip-clop.
(The skeletons of three white horses
just flew past so keep
your fingers crossed
until you see a donkey).
Flower fairies are pinging
spangles on the fountains
tingling sherbert
on the holly prickles.
Pixels quiver.
The grape solstice is afoot.
It feels intense to me
and looks like lasting right through
to the sleighbells.
