I once rode a palamino
on a hot Tunisian beach and
being an equestrian
virgin at the time
I thought riding a horse was like
driving a car and when you
made that clicking noise with
your tongue you were
stepping on the gas
and when you said
whoah you were putting on
the brakes but here’s the thing
about horses. You mount
the beast thinking
you’re in charge and the next
thing you know you’re off with
something wild and alive between
your legs and did I mention
the massive stallion
behind me and that mine was a mare
in heat and the fast wet gallop along
the shoreline me hanging
in there thigh muscles
straining and the kids
open-mouthed with their
buckets and spades and the topless
women screaming and the men
shouting commands - dismount, dismount!?
Two horny horses cavorting
in the swell - not exactly the riding
lesson I was expecting but that’s okay
because when I remember
that hot wet salty afternoon
I usually
think of you
