Plen
Here’s when the world changed.
With a bang he fisted the pane
uncurled his hand and pointed his finger,
proclaimed: “Plen”. The clear consonants
as bright as the cloudless blue.
That night he slept right through.
His bum stuck up in the air regardless
of the world grown dumb, too big or dim.
(I want to be small now and just hug him).
All the long long words, they lie
in the rubble. Did I ever know
what was true? What will I tell him
about why we do what we do? Today
he points to the comfortless sky
where no planes fly.
