Vacancies
Watching Christmas films in June
feels like the best thing I can do
to make it through the summer.
I've seen this one before, but still
it beats reading the boards
down at the job centre.
There's vacancies
I know
but it's not worth my while to go
and read that stacking shelves
requires dedication to a team,
phrased in words from the wet dreams
of a company man.
Scrape enough together
to pay me half of what I'm worth
then I might just move and miss
another blinding dole day's sun
like this
setting on TV.
'It's A Wonderful Life,' and for a moment
I agree as Jimmy Stewart hollers through the snow.
He's broke
like me
blissfully
happy.
