A Dangerous Place
He lives in a dangerous place. You don’t want to go there. Neighbours either side are nice; the whole street, in fact, quite pleasant. But once that door slams shut it’s a different story.
A dark frame of mind. He sees your concern or curiosity as a threat. What do you want from me? He has devised a series of strategies against all lines of enquiry. Any question you could possibly ask about why he is what he is - answered like a knife. Always on the defensive, always. Life isn’t life. No such thing as a good life, a happy life. Existence is an endurance test.
He only reads authors whose work reinforces this opinion. Only listens to music that sustains a rigid frame of mind. Any lapse into an area of ease, an hour or two of trivia, is infuriating. He punishes himself all the tine. But if by chance he sees you and smiles, be careful - there’s bound to be an ulterior motive. Or maybe he’s already thinking of a way to put you out of the picture.
He likes to stay hungry. It keeps him on edge. “What sort of a madman...” you may think to yourself. Don’t bother. Don’t even go down that road. He lives in a dangerous place. Barely human.
