McCoy's Last Stand
Everyone on the back row
is reading, except Brown,
who is fishing for my attention:
he has his book upside down.
He is convincing. He leans forward
and turns a page, backwards.
I see the hook, but today
I am not biting. I am writing.
I imagine the denouement
in reverse: the hero’s bullet
returns to his smoking gun
as the villain’s blood spills uphill
and all the deeds are undone
as they eat their words:
‘McCoy, surrounded is building whole the
up hands your with out come’.
But McCoy doesn’t answer.
He’s busy at the bank
handing money to the cashier.
The bell is ringing.
