Living Together
All as you’d want it to be:
each vessel washed and dried,
back in its proper place:
fork by fork, knife by knife,
and every pot vying
with every plate
in its shine;
each paper flower glad
to be in flower,
every locked door content.
As though nothing has happened,
nothing to report
but all perfect, in due order,
according to its nature.
My love,
there’s nothing I’d prefer
to the habit of a Blessed Order
except the dazzle of crockery
and aprons
in our kitchen convent.
